Description

This course is perfect for the silversmith looking to take their work to the next level. Master engraver and world-renowned artist Diane Scalese will spend five days covering fabrication, design, and embellishment on one of the most popular pieces of jewelry. Bezel fabrication, soldering, sizing, and embellishment will be covered. The first ring project will take shape by adding elements such as beads, wire, and more. The second will take one of the most advanced techniques in hand engraving, sculpting, to create a 3-Dimensional effect. This class will push you as an artist, silversmith, and hand engraver. You won’t want to miss this.

Objectives

  • Sizing and fitting of ladies’ rings
  • Forming and soldering, including the use of proper tools, techniques, and safety measures
  • Fabrication of bezel and other decorative elements such as beads, wire, etc.
  • Sculpting silver
  • Clean up and polishing
  • Engraving ring shanks

Prerequisites

Completion of a GRS Basic Metal Engraving course or instructor approval is required, as well as an understanding of proper tool sharpening and basic engraving techniques.
