Description

Enjoy a week of elevating your stone setting skills with Mitchell Lurth. This class will focus on furthering your knowledge and ability to set stones in more challenging mountings. Emphasis will be placed on setting various stone shapes (round, princess, pear, marquise, and tapered baguettes) into various setting styles (6-prong, v-prong, half-bezel, tapered channel, bead, shared setting, and pavé). This course will challenge progressing stone setters and improve their versatility.

Objectives

  • Identification of tools needed
  • Graver sharpening, and explanation on applications in stone setting
  • Focus on micro-motor control
  • Learn proper prong setting and avoidable common errors
  •  Set various shaped stones: round, princess, pear, marquise, tapered baguettes
  •  Prong set a round stone into a 6-prong head
  • Bar set tapered baguettes
  • Prong set square stones in 4-prong heads (round prongs)
  • Prong set square stones in 4-prong heads (v-prongs
  • Prong set princess cut stones in a 3-stone head (shared v-prongs)
  • Bead-set round stones on the shank of a ring
  • Half-bezel set a pear into a solitaire ring
  • Prong set 3 marquise-shaped stones (v-prongs and round prongs)
  • Create 3-row pavé setting for round stones
  • Channel set round stones tapering in size
  • Take home an in depth manual featuring how-to instructions from class

Completion of a GRS Basic Stone Setting course or instructor approval is required.
